Giants take Game One of World Series as Panda Belts 3

The Giants took a quick lead in the first inning against Justin Verlander, as Pablo “Panda” Sandoval went deep for the first of three home runs. Sandoval has become only the fourth player to hit three home runs in a World Series game joining Babe Ruth (1926 and 1928), Reggie Jackson (1977) and Albert Pujols (2011).

This was also the first time in Sandoval’s career homering three times in one game. He homered twice off Verlander, and once to reliever Al Alburquerque in his first three at bats to take the Giants to an 8 to 3 win in game one of the 2012 World Series. Verlander was charged with the loss.

When asked about tonights game Sandoval said “It’s exciting, I’m excited to be part of the history. It’s one of the things when you’re a little kid, you’re dreaming to play in the World Series.”

Action will resume tonight with Game 2 starting at 7:30 EDT in San Francisco.
